Pick-it-up Livingston: community clean-up
Livingston showed up in force and over 150 volunteers picked up litter across Livingston for the Town Wide Clean up event sponsored through NJ Clean Communities funding.
Thanks to the hardwork and coordination of Township staff, Police and LivGreen’s Abhishek Gangwal volunteers were able to safely collect the trash to be picked up by the DPW. Some extra photos are available in the recent West Essex Tribune Article.
BUT why stop here! Here’s a few ways we can continue to keep our town clean AND a few programs on their way:
The "One a Day" Rule: Make a habit of picking up at least one or two pieces of visible litter whenever you walk to your mailbox, go for a jog, or take your dog for a walk.
Plogging: Combine your morning jog or walk with picking up litter.
Secure your trash: Keep trash and recycling bin lids secure - we’ve all seen the results especially on a windy day or a sneaky racoon!
Go re-usable: Challenge yourself to switch to one reusable item
Pick up after your pets: Always bring disposal bags on walks and pick up pet waste, which can otherwise wash into local storm drains and pollute waterways
A little goes a long way and you will inspire others to do the same.
Coming soon:
Participate in the upcoming Litter Pick-up Packs Logo competition with the Public Library. Soon litter backpacks will be available to borrow through the ‘Library of Things’. You can borrow them for a walk round the oval or for a scout, faith or community group walk any time! We will be having a logo competition so your design could help inspire trash clean up and represent our program!
Adopt-A-Drain program - hot off the press this scheme was just approved and more information to come soon on how we can keep adopt a local drain and keep trash out of our storm drains. You can even name the drain so it’s time to get creative!
Download a litter app and friend LivGreen - it’s a fun way to track your trash and motivate clean ups as a community year round. We are tirialing litter apps now, let us know which you like:
Here are some examples of Litter Clean up apps. Some apps focus on gamifying, others on recording GPS location of litter via photos for tracking and others on the event coordination elements. Please explore and share your feedback: livgreenteam@gmail.com
