Java’s “Com-post” Drop Off service coming to Livingston!

Composting is a critical component of diverting our food waste from Landfill and reducing greenhouse gases. A shocking 1/3 of our waste could be composted.

For those of us who can’t compost in our backyard, we have good news! Livingston Township has approved sponsorship for a community drop-off subscription service in partnership with Java’s Compost.

The service is a simple concept. A drop-off site or “Com-Post” will be located in the Car Park at Town Hall. Once launched you will be able to sign-up to access the toter bin to drop off your food scraps. This first “Com-post” can serve 30 households, and subscription costs are covered from NJ Clean Communities Grant funding.

LivGreen will be organizing education efforts starting Mid-February and the program launch event will be the first week of March (date coming soon!). We will also be building an ongoing community connection series “Coffee and Compost” to keep us in touch and informed.

If we can show the popularity of this service we can use that momentum to advocate for an expansion of compost services.

For more information on the drop-off service visit Java’s Compost. In the Livingston Scheme the subscription charge will be covered for residents. There will be an option to purchase starter kits for subscribers and we will cover sign up, participation and education at the launch information session.

We must ALL play role in taking responsibility for our food waste and returning this resource to the ground as healthy nutrients! We are excited to provide one more way for our community to start that action!

Thank you to Shradha Prakash of LivGreen and ‘The Recycling and Reclamation Committee’, who has dedicated herself to bringing this step forward to our Town.
