Sustainable Jersey is a network and movement of municipalities, schools and school districts working collectively to bring about a sustainable New Jersey. Acting with state agencies, non-profit organizations, foundations, academia and industry, Sustainable Jersey researches best practices for what communities could and should do to contribute to a sustainable future. The program culminates in a prestigious certification award to municipalities and schools that have documented meeting a set of rigorous standards.

certification

Livingston is committed to being a “green and sustainable community” and became a Bronze-certified in Sustainable Jersey Certification in 2024.

Livingston Township initially achieved Silver certification in the early 2013.

Several strategic initiatives contributed significantly to Livingston’s Bronze certification:

·       Installed permanent pharmaceutical disposal boxes in the Township’s Police Department to safely manage unused medications.

·       Implemented energy tracking and management systems to monitor and reduce public-sector energy usage.

·       Launched a “Seed Library” at the Livingston Public Library, offering residents access to locally sourced seeds to support biodiversity and community gardening efforts

With continued support from residents and various initiatives of the Township we can look forward to aiming for Silver Certification in 2026.
