leave the leaves
One of the most valuable things you can do to support pollinators and other invertebrates is to provide them with the shelter they need to survive the winter.
Xerces.org have launched their fall campaign #leavetheleaves - and they are not alone.
Annually our town encourages us to do the same in our community. This message is also championed by our own Adam Lippman from the LEC.
Adam wants to remind you to help keep our streets and stormwater drains clean as we approach the fall. Leaves should not be piled in the street before October 26th. You can find the full schedule for the town here: Leaf Collection.
Even better, leave the leaves! There are great environmentally friendly options for your leaves prior to and during the leaf collection period. See what some of our neighboring communities recommend (Westfield - Eco-friendly Leaf Management & What should I do with all of the fall leaves) including leaving leaves in non-grassy areas, mulching with your lawn mower to provide fertilizer to your lawn, composting and more!"
Trashing leaves is illegal. Whatever you do, DON’T put leaves in the Trash.
